Referred to as AD&D, this type of insurance policy provides benefits to compensate for hardships related to an accidental loss of life or limb of the insured. The adjustments required by these types of losses can be emotionally stressful and very disruptive to the financial stability of the insured as well as the family unit. The insurance coverage of this provision is specifically designed to help individuals and their families sustain these types of losses.
Accidental Death Insurance– is offered as a separate policy or as a benefit under a health insurance policy. The coverage provides a specific amount to be paid to a beneficiary upon the insured’s loss of life resulting from an accident.
Accidental Dismemberment – provides a specific benefit amount to the insured upon suffering the accidental loss of a limb, sight, speech, or hearing. Generally provisions are restricted to the actual severance of a limb with exclusions for fingers or toes. However some insurers provide reduced benefits for loss of toes and fingers or for the loss of the use of a major limb.
